SKW holds on tight, with or without Starke - Thursday, 22 January 2009
It was a night full of adrenaline as the Black Africa FC fan who filled the majority of the Khomasdal Stadium seats go up and wild to the almost goals from their boys. But as the saying goes, “almost does not count”. However, the SKW FC makes it count as they once again continue to cling on to the number one hot spot of the log.
After a period of Injuries, Arend von Stryk headed SKW top of the MTC premiership table with a 1-0 win over Black Africa within 40 minutes of kick off time. Wearing jersey Number 10, giant striker von Stryk could not hide his joy as he celebrates his first goal of the season with his mates. After a clumsy handling of ball, Marco van Wyk was relieved by the wonder work of von Stryk.
The match saw some intense battle in the middle of the park, with the likes of tough Da-Costa Angula coming up against Van Wyk and BA’s Bryan Bantam had two close opportunities for his club but let down by lack of composure.
Jerome Louis was not any better as in two occasions got the crowd on its toes with excitement for disappointment with no finish. With two minutes on the clock, Luise had a crack at the goal but the water-tight defence of SKW proved influential in their team’s victory.
Sport Klub Windhoek FC took the honours in the care of Rolf Beiter and Lucky Kakuva and is now leading with 18 points, three (3) ahead of defending champions Orlando Pirates FC who plays on Saturday against Oshakati City FC in Oshakati.

Coach Richard Starke resigned temporarily - The facts
Dear Soccer friends
I wish to put to paper the circumstances regarding my resignation as coach of the Cymot NPL soccer team before any rumors make the rounds.
I have temporarily resigned as coach as I am unable to fit in my coaching duties with my work schedule, so much so, that this has affected my health.
It is my intention to make myself available again once my health has improved, if and when I am needed then. I am convinced that Rolf and Lucky
shall continue with the good work we have done in the past, and, perhaps, this change will lead to an even better performance by the team.
Finally, I wish to extend my gratitude to all of you for your support and help, especially to Vincent, Frank, Rolf and Lucky for their understanding
in this regard.

SKW Team News: René Traut in for his debut ?
SKW long serving Silver Zemburuka (in soccer circles known better as Fox) who dislocated his shoulder once again against Stars two weeks ago, will undergo surgery on the 12 February. "Foxi" will be out of action at least three to four months.
Mean while Tatenda Chingarath is doing well in his second week back at the training, and might be picked for the encounter against Tsumeb based Chief Santos.
Also new arrived René Traut who finished his studies in Cape Town might be in for a few minutes if picked for the final 17 tonight. Traut is better known as "Fish" amongst his team mates, and when SKW News wanted to know from the players why they call René "Fish", it all had a simple explanation: Traut which is directly translated into the English "trout" is a fish !!!!
"If we carry over this inventiveness into our game it would be good. "The most challenging is to get the mindset of our players on track, because normally footballers tend to underrate opponents which are at the bottom of the log" two very positive looking coaches said.

Cymot SKW regained the top spot
on the MTC Namibia Premier League log after beating Chief Santos 4-0 at home on Saturday. Marco van Wyk opened the scoring after 31m when displayed great control to volley in Patrick Mkontwana’s cross from close range. Second half substitute Tatenda Chingarath who came on for Arend von Stryk made it 2-0 shortly after the restart when he finished off a swift counterattack. Van Wyk grabbed his second and SKW’s third goal when he volleyed home a cross by Edwin Korukuve on 77m, while Chepela Chepela made it 4-0 with three minutes to go when he dispossessed a Santos defender and scored from close range. The victory puts SKW back on top of the log on 21 points, two ahead of the chasing pack.

President of the Swiss coaching association, Mr Philip Müller, arrived early Friday morning in Namibia and will be a guest at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) till end of February 09.
Philip J. Müller President from the USFT will watch and observe several games of the club, on youth and senior level, and will share his opinions and views with the different coaches. He will also give various presentations to interchange some ideas, but most importantly, the SKW would like to benefit from his vast experience and would like to instill these suggestions into the training concepts used currently. Coach Richard Starke, who had contact with Mr Müller since early last year, will host the swiss guest.

WINDHOEK – Growing up in the tiny town of Otavi, not too many of the poorly populated northern town’s inhabitants really thought that young Siggi Hacker would be playing top flight football at the tender age of sixteen.
Born at Otjiwarongo in 1950 and hardly out of his nappies - young Siggi moved to Otavi with his parents aged six.
His romance with the beautiful game started to blossom when he went to further his education at the Etosha High School in Tsumeb, where he found himself in the company of the Ahrens cousins, Uwe and Gernot. “We made a name for ourselves in the annual Gamsu Schools Cup tournament where we competed against the likes of Swakopmund HPS, Jan Mohr and Grootfontein.”
It was at these games that saw young Siggi rubbing shoulders with what would become his future teammates with the likes of Gunter Hellinghausen, Puffi Rahn, Rolfi Hasse, Shorty Lohmeier and his brother Hans – graduating from this particular project.
The name Siggi Hacker immediately springs to mind as one of the most feared defenders at the very beginning of the introduction of multi-racial football, during the days of the South African apartheid regime in South West Africa. The now 58-year-old former SKW hard-as-nails defender might have retired from active football, but his legacy will remain enshrined in the golden pages of our archives.
“While still attending school in Tsumeb, I would play three gruelling games every Saturday. It was rugby in the mornings as a fly-half for the school’s first team and then soccer at lunch-time, before I dashed out to play for Kombat/Otavi FC in the country’s elite league,” recalls Siggi with a twinkle in his ageing eyes. Siggi formed a deadly combination with Egon Jepp, Ferdie Ellinger, Conny Schonweiss and Kasupi Reiff.
“We played against the likes of Ramblers, SKW, Swakopmund, Sparta, Atlantis, Tsumeb and Okahandja Manschaft, which hosted the annual pipe opener – the Tuckmantel Cup.”
Siggi became an integral member of all national youth teams up to the Under-18’s that toured South Africa. He moved to Windhoek after completion of his studies in Tsumeb and joined SKW in 1973. He was reunited with Gernot and Uwe Ahrens, alongside other talented footballers such as Werner Massier, Eberhard Fulle, Bino Froese, Bobby Ihlein, Dieter Zimney and Henning Baard. With Siggi in their midst, SKW won several tournaments with few league titles in between. It was not long before national selectors took note of the Tsumeb protégé’s prowess on the playing field. His name was amongst the first to be called out when selectors announced the squad for the historic friendly match between the South West Africa White Eleven against their Black counterparts in 1975.
A tearful Siggi detailed the excitement of that particular match:
“We were very excited and determined to showcase our talents against each other. Technically, our opponents were much more advanced but they lacked the basics that led to a game of two contrasting style.”
He represented South West Africa in the annual South African Provincial Currie Cup Tournament in Durban in 1976, and also turned out for the star-studded Windhoek City outfit in South Africa’s second tier semi-professional league in the early 70’s. “City had assembled a very good squad and I will always cherish my playing days there, with highly talented footballers such as Ian Buchanan, Ronnie Hoole, Ian Wood, George Hill, Peter Rath, Vic Lovell, Bob Koudelka, Siggy Anderson, Wolfgang Fleschhammel and Gernot Ahrens.” Windhoek City was competing against the likes of Germiston Callies, Lusitano, Jewish Guild and Florida Albion.
Back at SKW, Siggi was an integral part of the all-conquering SKW outfit that defeated the highly rated African Stars in the first ever multi-racial knockout tournament – the Clemence Kapuuo Cup that carried a price tag of N$2 000. The final ended in a stalemate at a packed to rafters Show Grounds Stadium and the result had to be decided on a shootout, with players obliged to accelerate with the ball at their feet from the halfway line, within a certain period of time before scoring. He won a “gold medal” with SKW after that fateful Mainstay Cup final against Orlando Pirates in 1979, which SKW lost 5-3 after extra time. However, the Germans were declared the winners after the Dios Engelbrecht-led team was adjudged to have brought the game of football into disrepute after arriving 45 minutes late for the kick-off. “That match should never have taken place under those conditions. We were leading 3-2 with five minutes left and could have wrapped up the result had Hasso not missed a penalty. Pirates equalized in the dying minutes to take the tie into extra time, but by that time we had lost further interest in the contest, knowing already that the match was just an exhibition for the paying customers,” says Siggi.
Unlike many former footballers who regard modern football as mediocre as opposed to their playing days – Siggi sums it up differently. “If I compare the current standard of domestic football to the time when I was playing for Windhoek City – it’s almost the same. The only difference is that we played a more open game, while modern football is concentrated on the compact game where players don’t allow the opposition enough space, and I must confess football has become very fast these days.” He also reckons the domestic league is more attractive and better organized, and expressed the hope that many clubs will heed the FIFA Road Map call for the establishment of youth academies.
Siggi singles out Ian Buchanan, Hasso Ahrens, Oscar Mengo, Peter Rath, Grey Umati, Albert Tjihero and Alu Hummel as exceptional footballers during his generation.

Mr Phillip Müller, President of the Swiss Coaching Association (USFT), presented various training techniques to the coaches of the Sport Klub Windhoek. Monday evening the SKW coaches had to train together with the Cymot SKW NPL Team to see how the practical session is converted to theory on the field.
Yesterday "Coach Philip", his nickname at the Sport Klub, had his last coaching session with the U/21 side.
Today its take-off back home to Switzerland. Philip Müller confirmed last night that the relationship between the Windhoek based green and whites will continue, but also the work between the Swiss and Namibia. NFA technical director Mr Klaus Stärk as well as National Coach Tom Saintfiet had meetings with the Swiss coaching president. Müller himself would like to visit Namibia again early 2010 to continue his work.. The SKW Sport Klub thanks Müller for all his input for the country and our Club. One of the coaches said with a big smile that if Cymot SKW will win the Namibian League he should fly into Namibia this year still… this comment was greeted with a smile from Müller.

Die African Stars haben durch einen Sieg über Ramblers und durch einen Patzer des Konkurrenten Eleven Arrows die Tabellenführung in der Fußball-Premierliga verteidigt und sind somit „Sommer-Meister“ zur Halbzeit der Saison 2008/09. Der SKW rückte als Verfolger auf.

Spieltag gegen Eleven Arrows endete mit einem 1:0-Sieg der Grün-Weißen aus Olympia, die auf den 2. Platz vorrückten. Windhoek – In der Partie gegen Ramblers war es Ninja Karongee von African Stars, dem kurz nach Wiederanpfiff zur zweiten Halbzeit das einzige Tor der Partie gelang. Die „Sterne” blieben somit in dieser Saison mit neun Siegen und einem Remis weiter ungeschlagen; sie haben 28 Punkte und sogar noch ein Nachholspiel zu absolvieren. Die Ramblers-Kicker aus Pionierspark indes verpassten einen Befreiungsschlag – sie bleiben nach elf Spielen mit mageren neun Punkten Drittletzter der NPL-Tabelle.
Bei einer Niederlage der Stars gegen Ramblers hätten Eleven Arrows mit einem Sieg die Führung wegen des besseren Torverhältnisses übernommen. Doch die „Elf Pfeile“ patzten und mussten sich gegen den Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) geschlagen geben. Auch in dieser Partie fiel nur ein Tor, das Kapitän Marko van Wyk bereits in der 7. Spielminute nach guter Kombination von Sheldon du Plessis und Edwin „Guti“ Korukuve für die grün-weißen Gastgeber erzielte. Passgeber du Plessis wurde vom SKW zum „Spieler des Tages“ erkoren.
“ Das war ein sehr schönes Spiel – unser bestes seit Weihnachten“, schwärmte SKW-Trainer Rolf Beiter. „Die Spieler haben das umgesetzt, was wir als Trainer gefordert hatten“, führte er aus und erklärte, dass der SKW zwei Wochen lang Druckspiel im Mittelfeld und den Einsatz einer Viererkette geübt habe, um den Gegner einzuschnüren. „Gratulation an die Mannschaft, das haben Viele nicht erwartet, jetzt sind wir glücklich“, so Beiter. Er freute sich neben dem Sieg auch über die Rückkehr des zentralen Verteidigers Günther von Hundelshausen. Dieser stand nach einer Verletzung am Sprunggelenk das erste Mal in dieser Saison wieder in der Stammauswahl.
Durch den Sieg löste der SKW mit nun 24 Punkten das Team von Eleven Arrows (22 Punkte) auf dem 2. Tabellenplatz und somit als engster Verfolger des Spitzenreiters ab. Die „Pfeile“ sind nun Dritter, punktgleich dahinter, aber mit schlechterer Tordifferenz, folgen Orlando Pirates. Der Meister kam auswärts zu einem schmeichelhaften 1:0-Arbeitssieg über den Tabellenvorletzten Chief Santos. Black Africa (6., 16 Punkte) indes schickten den Gegner Oshakati City (7., 13) nach einem 4:1-Kantersieg nach Hause und stärkte somit die eigene Position im Tabellenmittelfeld.
Bereits am Freitag gab es zum Auftakt des 11. Spieltages eine Partie, in der mehr Tore fielen als bei vier Begegnungen am Samstag: In einem dramatischen Spiel siegten Hotspurs über Tigers mit 5:4.
Die Ergebnisse des 11. Spieltages: Hotspurs – Tigers 5:4, Cymot SKW – Eleven Arrows 1:0, Chief Santos – Orlando Pirates 0:1, Black Africa – Oshakati City 4:1, African Stars – Ramblers 1:0, Civics – Mighty Gunners 2:0.

U16 National Team in Germany - the good work of Technical Director Klaus Stärk and Coach Willy Monday, 09 March 2009
The new U16 selection of the Namibian Football Association (NFA) is currently in a training camp at Sportschule Duisburg-Wedau in Germany.
The team is in Germany by invitation from the German Football Federation (DFB) and will stay until 16th of March.
Called twice a day for training, the team is working hard on and off the field. Because the performance level of the team is one year below that of the German players. Therefore the team can only “play against U15 teams as they do not stand a chance of good results against U16”. According to NFA’s TD, Klaus Stärk, “the behavior of the young players is very well and the officials of the team and the officials of the sports school are happy with the boys”. So far the boys played against U16 Niederrhein selection and lost but were able to beat the Niederrhein U15 B-team by 1:0 and drew against the A-team. Stärk stated that there is “still much work to be done and it will be absolutely necessary to find a scouting system for that age group”.
Coach Willem Kapukare is also amongst the mentors of the U16.

"Due to new developments in my career I unfortunately have to surrender my position as Chairperson of Cymot SKW Football. I will be leaving the country to pursue a new venture." explained Mr Molzahn when SKW News spoke to him.
Mr Molzahn will be dearly missed by his fellow colleagues. Molzahn joined the club after his school career as a young player, before he left to study in South Africa and Europe. When he returned to Namibia he rejoined the club as player, and then joined as a SKW football board member and also as SKW Main Club manager. Vincent became chairman of the soccer division in 2001 and played a major role in bringing the SKW Football team back to the Namibian Premier League in 2003. His post will be taken by no one else than Mr Richard Starke, who officially took over as SKW Football chairman last Thursday. Starke, who is a well known coach, will also be part of the coaching team much to the relieve of Lucky Kakuva and Rolf Beiter, who are both also involved in the youth football.
The football section committee consists of : Carla Starke, Vincent Molzahn, Jochen Traut, Richard Starke, Frank Schatz, Harald Fülle, Lucky Kakuva and Rolf Beiter. The Youth committee is driven by Uta Ahrens and Klaus Otto, while the old boys are managed by Reimund Stoldt and Udo Riedel.

Heidi Kebbel played till last year in the u/13 boys competition and moved this year to the ladies u/15 squad. Yesterday she got a call up for the Namibian u/14 National side.

Silver "FOX" Zemburuka back in Squad !!!!
SKW son Silver will be back in the squad again after he dislocated his shoulder last November. "Foxi", his nackname at the club and in soccer circles, had to undergo surgery in January 09. He trained very hard the last two months to find his way back into the SKW squad. Silver joined the Sport Klub Windhoek in 2003. He has got the no 4 jersey ever since, and is, and had been, one of the key men for the Olympia based outfit. His advantage is that he has a big green heart, and always leads by example. SKW arranged for employment at their sponsors Cymot, where Zemburuka is steadily climbing up the ladder and is on his way to gain a higher ranking. His employer also praised the input of Foxi Zemburuka.

The Cymot SKW season came to an end yesterday evening with the club's Annual Prize Giving Awards. Honoured by the presence of the Managing Directory of Cymot, Mr Axel Theissen, the main sponsor of SKW, the following awards were presented:
- SKW PLAYER of the season: national player Ralph Ellinger 'The Rock'
- Marko van Wyk SKW top scorer with 18 Goals - 14 in the League and 4 in the NFA Cup
- Edwin Korukuve most improved player,
- Chepela Chepela most enthusiastic player
- while Edmund 'Sledge' Gowaseb became sportiest player of the season 2007/08.
- The award for the most enthusiastic SKW Official this year went to coach and PR man Rolf Beiter.

Cymot SKW midfielder Marco van Wyk is our MTC Player of the Season after receiving the most votes from our panel of judges as well as from the readers of Namibia Sport magazine.
The voting was quite close amongst our panel of judges, consisting of the 12 Premier League coaches.
Amongst our readers, Van Wyk however was a runaway winner as he received about 90 per cent of the votes. read more in SKW NPL News
Arend von Stryk resigns from top level football with immediate effect. At a fun tournament in Otavi von Stryk again hurt his knee which is giving him problems for one year already, when he injured his cruciate ligaments. This should have been his final active soccer year, after which Arend would have quit football in style, but the knee is just not stable enough to carry him through another season. It is a big blow for the club, the coaches and for Arend himself. Arend announced his retirement in an official letter to his club on Monday. In a telecall with SKW News he told :" I'll try and make a comeback with the old crocks (SKW Alte Herren / Old Boys) and help in the SKW youth football

Cymot SKW midfielder Marco van Wyk dropped a bombshell on Wednesday when he announced that he had signed up with Black Africa for the new season. Van Wyk told Namibia Sport that it was a difficult decision, but he decided to join Black Africa because of the way they approached him and their serious title ambitions.
“There were several teams that were interested in my services, but of all of them, I was impressed the most by Black Africa. We had several meetings and they really made an effort to acquire my services. I think I will fit in well with their style of play and they told me that I would take over the playmaker role now that Lolo Goraseb has retired. Most of their top players are staying and I think that Black Africa will be serious title contenders this season,” he said.
Several other teams, including Civics and Orlando Pirates had also been keen on signing Van Wyk, while Pirates even offered him more money than Black Africa, but Van Wyk said it was not about the money for him.
“Pirates gave me a better offer, but for me it’s not so much about the money, but more about the club’s ambition and their chances of winning trophies. With top players like Jerome Louis, Bryan Bantam and Clarence Foroma still with BA, I think we can make a strong challenge this season," he said.
"I am not saying that SKW will not make it - I believe they will be among the title contenders, because I know their character and you cannot write them off. I would like to wish them the best for the future," he added.
Van Wyk’s departure will leave a huge gap at Cymot SKW after his superb performance last season. Despite being a midfielder, he ended up as their top goal scorer with 14 Premier League goals and four goals in cup competitions. He also captained the side and it was his tremendous all-round contribution that played a major role in SKW’s strong challenge for the title. They were amongst the log leaders for most of the season, before fading in their final matches to finish fourth.
Van Wyk was rewarded for his brilliant season when he was voted as Namibia Sport Magazine’s MTC Player of the Season, by the 12 coaches in the Premier League. Van Wyk, who has been a loyal player for SKW over the past four seasons, said it was quite tough to leave SKW.
“It was quite an emotional decision for me, because SKW meant a lot to me. Besides Liverpool, it’s the only club I have played for and I learnt a lot from the coaches Lucky Kakuva, Richard Starke and Rolf Beiter. It was a difficult decision but I made it, based on my future as a player, because I think I will only have about six years left,” he said. Van Wyk said he had held several meetings with Black Africa chairman Kandas Paulino, their coach Ali Akan and Lolo Goraseb before he made up his mind to join them.
“Lolo said I could replace him at BA and take over his playmaker role in central midfield and wear his number six shirt. It’s also my favourite number and the one I had at SKW,” he said.
DFB Fußballlehrer Heinz Werner beim Sport Klub Windhoek
Der - DFB Fußballlehrer und Ex DDR Auswahltrainer gastiert zur Zeit in Windhoek und bereitet mit dem SKW Trainergespann Richard Starke und Rolf Beiter (Lucky Kakuva besucht gerade die Sportschule Hennef) die SKW NPL Mannschaft auf die Saison vor. CYMOT SKW muss am 12. September gegen die Eleven Arrows aus Walvisbay ran. Spielort wird wohl der SFC sein , da das Kuisebmund Stadion in Walvisbay momentan nicht den NPL Standards entspricht. ua.steht Werner in den zwei Wochen seines Aufenthalts, der SKW Jugendabteilung zur Verfügung.
Heinz Werner kann man wohl auch als Missionar im Fussball bezeichnen. Seit 1968 ist er als Fussabltrainer tätig. Begonnen hat er seine Karriere an der Uni Greifswald, wo er Fußballer und Sportlehrer ausbildete. Es folgten mehrere Jahre bei verschiedenen Klubs in der höchsten Liga der DDR. Kurz vor der Wende wurde er zum Sportkoordinator der Fußballnationalmannschaft ernannt. U.a ist/war er Spielebeobachter der Deutschen Fußball Nationalmannschaft, so auch bei der WM 2006 in Deutschland.
Renowned German soccer expert Mr Heinz Werner is currently visiting the SKW. Main aim is to assist the coaching team with the selection and naming of the SKW squad, especially regarding the first NPL game to be played at the coast next weekend. Mr Heinz Werner has been actively involved in soccer since 1968, be it as soccer player, coach or technical advisor. Mr Heinz Werner will assist the youth coaches as well for the preparation of their respective teams for the last month in active youth soccer. The Cymot SKW team will play a friendly against African Stars this weekend to test and to close of the final squad of 25 players.
SKW NPL and u/17 coach Lucky Kakuva left for Germany to attend a coaching course in Hennef, Germany.
Together with Johannes Hindjou he joined other aspiring coaches from other 17 counties including, Zambia, Swaziland, South Africa and Mozambique at the International Coaching course in Hennef. Kakuva is will be back September 18.

German National Soccer Player Nia Künzer will be at the SKW for a short visit. Nia will be available for autographs at the SKW Lapa from 18h00 tomorrow evening. So all fans, friends, footballers. children and especially the girls soccer players are welcome to say hello to Nia.
German women soccer legend Nia Künzer arrived in Namibia on Wednesday for the NFA-UNICEF GALZ & GOALS Project to be launched on Friday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek. Künzer scored the Golden Goal in the final match against Sweden as Germany won the 2003 World Cup and, with that goal was voted as the "Goal of the Year" in the history of German football.
After the autograph session all are welcome to view the NPL match between CYMOT SKW and HOTSPURS which starts at 20h00. Admition fee N$20-00.
More VIP guests will be attending the Premierleague encounter namly Botswana-based FIFA Development Officer Ashford Mamelodi and his Swazi colleague Frederick Mngomezulu, assisted by Namibia’s FIFA Instructor Matthew Haikali. The three are currently offering a six-day FIFA Win in Africa with Africa (WIAWA) course which started Monday and trains club’s chairpersons, managers as well as coaches/technical directors, marketing and communication specialists (for specific topics) from clubs of the Namibia Premier league.

SKW's coaching team is considering to urgently promote Andre to the NPL side. The hree regular keepers are out of action, Harry Januarie and Euresol Kongoro are both injured, while Sven Wiedenroth has opened his own company and is not regularly available. The SKW management spoke to some clubs to get a goal keeper on loan without success. Youngster Andre Fug is an exceptional talent and seems prepared to fight for a place in the Cymot SKW squad. Currently the Olympia outfit waits for the green light from the NPL office to get permission to include the young man in their senior side.
Who will be in goal for Cymot SKW against Civics. Definitive out is Harry Januarie (2nd from right) who broke a finger. So the option is either Euresol Kongoro (2nd from left - slight muscle injury) or Sven Wiedenroth (left) who is not training regularly due to work commitments. A surprise could be youngster Andre Fug (right) who was the Cymot SKW U/17 goal keeper this year.

Fairytale debut by young Fug - 09/11/09
Last week Andre Fug, a 17 year old schoolboy, received an invitation from the SKW coaching trio to join the Cymot SKW NPL team at their training sessions. Fug, who played for the Cymot SKW U17 team over the past two seasons was recommended to the NPL coaches Richard Starke and Rolf Beiter by their co-coach Lucky Kakuva who also doubles as SKW’s U17 coach.
The reason for this unexpected call-up was the injury of two of the three registered NPL keepers, Harry Januarie and Ecresol Kongoro. Starke, who is also currently the chairman of Cymot SKW, got the permission from the NFA and NPL to include the 17 year old boy in the squad. Andre showed some good form during SKW’s training sessions and was consequently thrown into the deep end by the coaching trio - a starting line-up place against Civics last Friday night!
Come Friday night the youngster showed some pre-match nerves and his inexperience showed when he had to be told what to do at the pre-match inspection. Following some calming words from his more experience team mates Andre took his place between the sticks and showed why the trust bestowed on him by his coaches was not misplaced.
Listening to and being guided by the back four of Warren Neidel (later named man of the match), Sheldon du Plessis, Gunther von Hundelshausen and Ralph Ellinger, Andre showed a very good overall performance and made some vital saves to keep his team in the game with only 10 minutes left on the clock. His dream debut continued when his captain Sledge Gowaseb scored a spectacular winner for SKW shortly before the final whistle.
The end of the game however did not signal the end of Andre’s dream debut. NFA Technical Director Klaus Stärk, a spectator that evening, came down to the touch line after the game and congratulated Andre on his performance and also informed him of his call-up to the U20 national team squad.
Asked to comment afterwards Andre simply said that he wants to keep his feet firmly on the ground and take his opportunities as they come his way.
In more news from the SKW camp, Pitzi Eichhoff made a welcome return to Cymot SKW after completing his studies in Germany. Eichhoff had a fine debut for SKW this season, running tirelessly down the left wing and providing numerous pinpoint crosses to his strikers. Eichhoff showed that he had not lost his touch and made his intentions clear that this will not be his last 90min for his team.
Also, one of last season’s top performers, Chepela Chepela finally overcame his hamstring injury to re-claim his starting line-up position. One could immediately see that “Chippa” as he is called by his teammates, is back and will once again be one of the most valuable players in the squad this season.

WINDHOEK - Cymot Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) ended their fairytale season with a glittering prize-giving ceremony at its premises in Olympia, south of the capital on Tuesday evening. The managing director of the club’s official sponsor Cymot – Axel Theissen – was amongst the invited guests at the gala event where the following awards were presented to the club’s top achievers in a relatively successful season that saw the gutsy Germans finishing in modest 4th place in the 12-team MTC Namibia Premiership.
• Player of the season: Brave Warriors protégé Ralph ‘the Rock’ Ellinger.
• Golden Boot: Captain fantastic Marko van Wyk, who top scored with a total haul of 18 goals to his credit – 14 in the League and 4 in the Cell One NFA Cup competition.
• The Most Improved player of the season award went to Edwin Korukuve, while Chepela Chepela was awarded the most enthusiastic player award.
• Enterprising winger Edmund ‘Sledge’ Gowaseb got the nod for the sportiest player of the season and the award for the most enthusiastic club official went to coach Rolf Beiter, who also doubles up as the club’s public relations officer.
The Germans will resume training in the middle of next month in preparation for the 2009/2010 season.
Trainer-Trio des SKW zieht Resümee: „Eine sehr gute Saison“
Die Fußballmannschaft des Sportklubs Windhoek (SKW) hat ihre Fans in der Saison 2008/09 in eine nie da gewesene Euphorie und die Konkurrenz ins Staunen versetzt. Die Platzierung spricht für sich. Doch der Erfolg der Grün-Weißen kommt nicht von ungefähr. Drei Männer haben es sich zum Job, zur Aufgabe und zur Leidenschaft gemacht, die Mannschaft zu trainieren und sie von Spiel zu Spiel zu führen. Arne Putensen sprach für die AZ mit dem Trainer-Trio: Richard Starke, Rolf Beiter und Lucky Kakuva.
AZ: Die Saison ist vorbei. Eure Mannschaft hat sich bis zum Schluss wacker geschlagen und mit Abstand für die größte Überraschung der Spielzeit gesorgt. Wie lautet Euer Resümee?
R. Starke: Es war eine sehr gute Saison. Wir haben definitiv über unsere Verhältnisse gespielt und so manchen Beobachter überrascht. Es gibt noch einige Dinge, die sich verändern müssen, daran werden wir in der Winterpause arbeiten.
AZ: Euer Team hat weit über den Verhältnissen gespielt, das zeigt auch die Tabellenplatzierung. Aber warum? Was waren Eure Stärken?
L. Kakuva: Wir haben eine unglaubliche Moral in der Mannschaft. Jeder Kicker will spielen und gibt alles für den Anderen. Darüber hinaus ist der Kern der Mannschaft über die vergangenen Jahre fast immer gleich geblieben. Das macht natürlich viel aus…
AZ: …hat auch Eure defensive Spielweise was damit zu tun, die ja bekanntlich in Afrika unüblich ist?
R. Beiter: Das stimmt nicht. Wir spielen nur sehr diszipliniert und daher sieht es wahrscheinlich so aus, als würden wir defensiv spielen. Unsere Abwehr hat allerdings einen guten Job in dieser Saison gemacht und daher stehen wir auch oben. Schaut man sich mal die Tordifferenz an, merkt man, dass wir sehr wenige Gegentreffer erhalten haben.
AZ: Es hapert noch im Sturm. Euer Team hat nur sehr wenige Tore erzielt und viele Treffer landete auch noch ein Mittelfeldspieler: Marco van Wyk.
R. Beiter: Das ist unsere große Schwäche. Wir haben nur einen Spieler, der Tore macht, und da muss in der nächsten Saison etwas passieren. Wenn wir einen gefährlicheren Stürmer und noch einige gute Mittelfeldspieler hätten, die ab und zu das Tor treffen, wären wir schon lange Meister.
L. Kakuva: In der Offensive muss was passieren…
AZ: …heißt das, dass sich der SKW derzeit nach Spielern umschaut? Gibt es bereits einige, die Ihr gerne verpflichten würdet?
L. Kakuva. Da fängt das Problem an. Es gibt wenige gute Spieler, die wir holen können. Daher müssen wir auf unsere Jugend bauen und diese für die Zukunft stark machen.
R. Beiter: Glücklicherweise gibt es Einige in unserer Jugend, die das Talent haben, bald in der Premierliga zu kicken. Aber wir haben auch einige Andere im Auge.
AZ: Der SKW spielt die zweite Saison in Folge ganz oben mit, aber warum wechseln keine großen Stars wie Rudolph Bester, Heinrich Isaacs oder Rudi Louw nach Olympia?
L. Kakuva: Da gibt es zwei Probleme. Entweder gehen die guten Kicker wegen des Geldes nach Südafrika oder Angola oder sie haben einfach nicht die Disziplin, um bei uns zu spielen. Wer bei uns nicht zum Training kommt, spielt auch nicht. Das ist nicht überall üblich.
R. Beiter: Auch unsere Art der Bezahlung verstehen die meisten Spieler nicht, denn bei uns gibt es kein festes Gehalt. Die Kicker werden für Anwesenheit beim Training, für Spiele, Siege und Unentschieden bezahlt. Meistens haben sie dann im Endeffekt mehr Geld als die Anderen. Die „Stars“ sehen meist nur die große Summe.
AZ: Insgesamt wurde den Zuschauern aller Vereine in dieser Saison nicht unbedingt der beste Fußball präsentiert. Habt Ihr die gleiche Meinung und wenn ja, warum war das so?
R: Starke: Das war mit Abstand die schlechteste Saison, die ich je gesehen habe – von allen Clubs. Der Verband (Namibischer Fußballverband, NFA, die Red.) muss mehr machen, um den Sport zu verbessern. Auch die finanziellen Mittel, die den Vereinen zu Verfügung gestellt werden, reichen vorne und hinten nicht.
L. Kakuva: Die falschen Leute sitzen an den falschen Plätzen. Zudem werden Daten für Spiele rausgegeben und dann am nächsten Tag verändert – so können die Trainer nicht planen.
AZ: Die Saison war für den SKW auch durch einige schmerzhafte Erlebnisse gekennzeichnet. Herr Starke, Sie haben kurzfristig für eine Weile Ihren Posten als Trainer niedergelegt. Danach herrschte ziemliche Verwirrung…
R. Starke: Die ganze Sache wurde von den Medien falsch interpretiert. Ich bin von meinem Posten nie ganz zurückgetreten, sondern habe aus gesundheitlichen Gründen nur eine Pause gebraucht.
R. Beiter: Wir waren immer ein Trainerteam; Richard hat eine Pause gemacht, Luckey und ich haben die Sache weitergeführt. Richard kam ja dann relativ schnell wieder zurück ins Trainergeschehen (lacht).
AZ: Abgesehen vom Fußballerischen – hat sich sonst etwas für den SKW verändert, die Fans zum Beispiel?
R. Beiter: Wir haben eine sehr stille Fangemeinschaft, die aber wächst. Auch von der schwarzen Bevölkerung bekommen wir Respekt, immer mehr Schwarze werden Fans unserer Mannschaft. Das ist schön zu sehen…
AZ: …Luckey, als einziger Farbiger im Trio hörst Du wahrscheinlich mehr als Deine Kollegen. Wie steht die schwarze Bevölkerung zu dem „deutschen“ und „weißen“ Verein und hat sich dieser in die überwiegend schwarze Fußballwelt intrigiert?
L. Kakuva: Die Mannschaft hat sich ja in den vergangenen Jahren gut verkauft und daher auch sehr gut in die Fußballwelt integriert. Wir erhalten sehr viel Respekt für unsere Disziplin und unsere Organisation. Ich denke schon, dass wir von den Meisten akzeptiert werden.
AZ: Habt Ihr Eure Saisonziele erreicht?
R. Starke: Nicht alle. Wir definieren die Saisonziele immer zusammen mit den Spielern. Die wollten in dieser Saison Erster oder Zweiter werden, wir Trainer wollten unter die Top 3. Auch wollten wir in das Pokalfinale einziehen, was uns leider nicht geglückt ist. Dafür haben wir aber mehr Nationalspieler hervorgebracht als zuvor. Mit Ralph Ellinger, Marco van Wyk, Günther von Hundelshausen und Arend van Stryk haben wir vier Nationalkicker im Kader.
